It’s been a bit quiet on my blog for a few weeks as I’ve been busy prepping for our latest Indie Author Fringe event, which is Fringe to the New York BookExpo event. I’m one of the co-organizers of this free online event for indie authors, along with authors Orna Ross and David Penny. We’ve been running this event for the past couple of years and each one is a little different.
As well as helping to organize the event I also present a couple of sessions at each Indie Author Fringe, and this process has been a real growth opportunity for me.
At the earlier events I wrote and presented articles about being an indie author and self-publishing, and then last year I co-hosted a podcast with Indie Author Yen Ooi about understanding your author role. This year I’ve raised the bar again on myself. For our London Book Fair Indie Author Fringe event in March I did a solo podcast called “How to use ebooks to build your non-fiction niche”, and for today’s Fringe conference I created a series of three video interviews with memoir authors Jack Scott, Karen McCann and Joe Cawley.
I’m much more comfortable behind the camera so this foray into video was a big step for me, but isn’t that what being and indie author is all about – “pushing your boundaries”!
If you’ve been thinking about becoming an indie author, our Fringe events are tailor-made for you. Our BookExpo event today focuses on how to sell more books and includes lots of different sessions about about different elements of book marketing and promotion.
Here’s the opening ceremony with Orna, David and I – and you can head on over to the Self-Publishing Advice Centre to watch the rest of the online conference – which goes on for the next 24-hours.
