BLOG TYRAN'TS BIG BLOGGING SURVEY 2018

Observations from this Blogging Survey

Take a look at Ramsey’s blogging survey to see (among other things) why people blog and how much time they spend blogging.

How much time do you spend blogging?

I found it interesting that nearly 50% of bloggers spend less that 5 hours per week, which means that when you look at the blogging landscape your competition is really only the other 50% of bloggers – the ones who put more time and effort into their blog.

Have you ever abandoned a blog?

Nearly 60% of bloggers have started and then abandoned a blog at some point, which makes me feel a little better about the blogs I’ve left by the wayside! Blogs do come and go because they take effort and passion to maintain. So if you can start and maintain a blog focused on a topic you’re passionate about your continued effort could make you the subject matter expertise in your niche. It’s this consistency that can help you build your blog.

Content is King

It’s good to see that bloggers still consider Content to be King (with building a mailing list and posting regularly as the other two important elements of building a blog). I truly believe that if you write good content that helps your audience, and you have a passion for your topic, you’ll be a successful blogger. You articles will end up including keywords organically, and your passion for the topic will shine through and help you create readable content.

This was certainly the case when I started my Bodrum Peninsula Travel Guide. I knew nothing about SEO when I started my first blog but I had a passion for my topic and I wrote articles from the perspective of helping other travelers to the area. Before I knew it I was on the first page of search results – and this was before I’d even started to get to grips with SEO. This is because I had the right approach to content creation. At that point I was still looking at blogging as a hobby, but that early blogging success helped me make the transition from a full-time corporate employee to a full-time writer.
