The topics covered in this month’s self-publishing podcast were focused around the book editing process for non-fiction and fiction – specifically aimed at beginning authors. If you’re new to the editing process, this introduction to the topic is easy to digest and deliver invaluable advice.

I’m currently working on BOOK ONE is a series of four books to help streamline your Travel Guide writing process. Whether you are a part-time or full-time author, your time is precious, so my writing series is targeted at travel writers and travel bloggers who want to write and publish their own travel guides, and these books will help speed up the process by demystifying the steps involved.

The full title of this book should really be “Falling in Honey after a couple of Lemons: Jen’s bitter-sweet adventure”. The book is a series of sweet moments, that runs through your fingers. There’s no great emotional climax in the story – but there’s enough pace to keep you vested in the outcome.

The best way to write a compelling book in your niche is to read books by other authors who write in a similar niche. After a few books you soon get to spot ones that are badly written or edited, and find writers who can spin a good yarn. Like me, Jill reads mostly memoirs, and especially travel memoirs. She’s partial to female authors who write humorous family stories, so it’s no wonder that Jill’s books showcase this niche so eloquently.

As well as authoring his own travel memoir, Robert Fear runs a travel writing competition and features the entries in an annual travel writing anthology. His foray into self-publishing was a slow burn, but his perseverance paid off and now he has multiple books under his belt.
